De-Light-ful! Make a metal Light Sconce
In this workshop you will make a great looking metal light sconce using simple techniques I have developed.
On day one we will go over safety issues, sheet metal types and characteristics, design and electrical considerations, types of rivets, and other connection options. You’ll become familiar with the basics of cutting, filing, bending, and hole punching/drilling. In the afternoon you will design and cut your sconce out.
Day 2 will be devoted to making a ready-to-hang sconce. Also discussed and/or demonstrated in class will be surface/texturing possibilities, such as hammering and stamping, and finishes such as patinas, paint, and powder-coating. We’ll employ cold connections only in this class; in other words, soldering will not be covered. Galvanized sheet metal will be used for our projects. If you want to use copper you must contact the instructor by April 5 or bring your own; a 26 gauge piece, at least 14” x 24”, is recommended.
